grandaunts

Grandparents' sisters collectively

Grandaunts is the plural of grandaunt—the sister of one's grandparent, or equivalently, the aunt of one's parent.

The term is interchangeable with great-aunt: My grandaunts always gathered at Thanksgiving.

Some families prefer one form over the other, but neither is more correct.
