government bills
Laws being debated
Government bills are proposed laws introduced by the executive branch or ruling party, as distinct from private members' bills introduced by individual legislators.
In parliamentary systems, government bills typically have priority for debate and better chances of passage: The government bill on healthcare reform passed its second reading.
In the United States, the term is less common since all bills are technically introduced by members of Congress, though administration-backed proposals function similarly.
