golden berry

Husk-wrapped tart fruit

Golden berry is a small, round, yellowish-orange fruit enclosed in a papery husk, related to the tomatillo.

Also called Cape gooseberry or ground cherry, it has a sweet-tart flavor with tropical notes.

The fruit appears in jams, desserts, and salads, and is sometimes sold dried: I added golden berries to the trail mix.
