glossed

Made deceptively shiny

Glossed is the past tense of gloss, which has two distinct meanings.

To gloss something is to add shine or luster: She glossed her lips before going out.

More commonly, to gloss over something is to treat it superficially or dismiss its importance: The report glossed over the safety violations.

A text can also be glossed by adding explanatory notes or annotations.
