shellacked
Beaten very badly
Shellacked has two main senses.
The literal meaning is coated with shellac, a resinous varnish that gives wood a hard, glossy finish: The shellacked floors gleamed.
In informal American usage, shellacked means soundly defeated or badly beaten: We got shellacked in the playoffs.
The slang sense may come from the idea of being flattened smooth.
