ghettoes

Segregated urban zones

Ghettoes is a plural of ghetto—a section of a city where a particular group lives, especially due to social or economic pressure.

The word originally referred to Jewish quarters in European cities.

It now describes any urban area marked by poverty and racial segregation: inner-city ghettoes.

The alternate plural ghettos is more common.
