geological feature

Natural terrain element

A geological feature is any physical characteristic of the Earth's surface or subsurface formed by natural processes: mountains, valleys, canyons, caves, volcanoes, fault lines, rock formations.

The term appears in scientific contexts and travel writing alike: The Grand Canyon is one of North America's most striking geological features.

Also called a landform when referring to surface features.
