geoblocking

Geographic access denial

Geoblocking is the practice of restricting access to online content based on the user's geographic location.

Streaming services use geoblocking to enforce licensing agreements—a show available in the UK might be blocked in the US.

Users often circumvent geoblocking with VPNs that mask their location: I use a VPN to get around Netflix's geoblocking.
