genre parody
Mocking a style
Genre parody is comedy that imitates and exaggerates the conventions of a particular genre—horror, romance, westerns, spy thrillers.
The humor comes from recognizing familiar tropes pushed to absurdity: Scary Movie mocks slasher films, Blazing Saddles targets westerns.
Genre parody requires audience familiarity with the source material to land its jokes.
