fusion bomb
Atomic joining explosive
A fusion bomb, also called a hydrogen bomb or thermonuclear bomb, is a nuclear weapon that derives its explosive power from the fusion of hydrogen isotopes rather than (or in addition to) the fission of heavy elements like uranium or plutonium.
Fusion bombs are vastly more powerful than fission bombs, capable of yields measured in megatons rather than kilotons.
The development of the fusion bomb marked a terrifying escalation in the Cold War arms race.
