thermonuclear weapon
Hydrogen-powered explosive
A thermonuclear weapon is a nuclear bomb that uses fusion rather than fission alone—hydrogen atoms combining under extreme heat and pressure to release vastly more energy than atomic bombs.
Also called a hydrogen bomb or H-bomb.
The first was tested in 1952.
Thermonuclear weapons can devastate entire metropolitan areas.
