frontliner

First-response professional

A frontliner is someone working on the front lines—typically in healthcare, emergency services, or essential work during a crisis.

The term gained widespread use during the COVID-19 pandemic to describe medical workers, grocery store employees, and others who continued working in direct contact with the public: Frontliners risked their health to keep society functioning.

Sometimes spelled as two words: front-liner.
