front-bencher
Cabinet-level politician
A front-bencher is a member of a parliament, particularly the British House of Commons, who holds a senior position in either the government or the opposition and sits on the front benches facing the chamber.
Government front-benchers include cabinet ministers and other senior officials, while opposition front-benchers form the shadow cabinet.
The term contrasts with backbencher, who sits behind the front rows and holds no official leadership role.
The Prime Minister called on her front-benchers to defend the policy.
