fritted

Melted into granules

Fritted describes material that has been fused by heat and then cooled, typically ground into granules or powder.

The process appears most often in glassmaking and ceramics, where fritted ingredients create glazes or enamels: fritted glass, fritted ceramic.

In laboratory and industrial contexts, fritted filters or discs contain sintered particles that allow liquids or gases to pass while trapping solids.
