fraud alerts
Suspicious activity notices
Fraud alerts are notifications placed on credit reports warning lenders to verify identity before extending credit.
You can request one after identity theft or suspected compromise of personal information.
A fraud alert requires creditors to take extra steps to confirm you're actually the person applying: I placed a fraud alert after my wallet was stolen.
They typically last one year but can be extended.
