fräuleins

Young German women

Fräuleins is the plural of Fräulein, the German word for an unmarried woman or young lady—equivalent to "Miss" in English.

The term was commonly used by English speakers during and after World War II to refer to German women: The soldiers spent their evenings with the local fräuleins.

In German, the word has fallen out of favor as a form of address, now considered old-fashioned or condescending.
