foot strike

Runner's ground contact

Foot strike is the moment when the foot makes contact with the ground during walking or running.

In biomechanics and running analysis, foot strike patterns—heel strike, midfoot strike, forefoot strike—describe which part of the foot lands first and affect injury risk and efficiency: She switched to a forefoot strike to reduce knee strain.

The term also appears in martial arts for kicks that land with the foot.
