flying somersault

Midair forward flip

A flying somersault is an acrobatic maneuver where the performer launches into the air—typically from a running start, springboard, or trapeze—and completes one or more full rotations before landing.

The "flying" distinguishes it from a ground-based somersault: the body travels through space while rotating.

Common in gymnastics, diving, cheerleading, and circus arts: She landed the flying somersault perfectly.
