flus

Seasonal viral infections

Flus is the plural of flu, an informal shortening of influenza.

It typically appears when distinguishing between different strains or types of the illness: stomach flus and respiratory flus spread differently.

The word also shows up in discussions of multiple flu seasons or outbreaks: the flus of 1918 and 2009 were particularly deadly.
