fluorapatite

Fluorine-bearing phosphate mineral

Fluorapatite is a mineral composed of calcium phosphate with fluorine, the most common member of the apatite group.

It occurs in igneous and metamorphic rocks and is the principal source of phosphorus for fertilizers.

Fluorapatite also forms the hard enamel of teeth, making them resistant to decay—the basis for adding fluoride to drinking water and toothpaste.
