flight line

Where planes wait

A flight line is the area of an airfield where aircraft are parked, serviced, and prepared for flight.

It typically refers to the paved apron or ramp adjacent to hangars and runways: Ground crews worked the flight line all night preparing jets for the morning sortie.

The term is especially common in military aviation.
