aircraft graveyard
Retired fleet storage
An aircraft graveyard is a storage facility where decommissioned planes are kept, often in arid climates that slow corrosion.
Some aircraft await scrapping for parts; others sit in long-term preservation in case they're needed again.
The stark rows of retired planes create an eerie, photogenic landscape: We visited the aircraft graveyard in the Arizona desert.
