flash burns
Instant heat damage
Flash burns are injuries caused by brief, intense exposure to radiant heat or light—typically from explosions, electrical arcs, or nuclear blasts.
Unlike burns from direct contact with flames, flash burns result from the instantaneous radiation of thermal energy across exposed skin: The welder suffered flash burns to his face and arms.
The term also applies to eye injuries from intense light, as in welder's flash.
