flame tests
Colorful metal detection
Flame tests are a chemistry technique for identifying elements by the color they produce when heated in a flame.
Different metals burn with characteristic colors—sodium produces bright yellow, copper gives blue-green, potassium burns violet.
The test works because heat excites electrons, which emit light at specific wavelengths as they return to their ground state.
We did flame tests in lab to identify the unknown salt samples.
