five paragraph essay
Academic writing format
A five paragraph essay is a formulaic structure taught in schools: an introduction ending with a thesis statement, three body paragraphs each developing one supporting point, and a conclusion that restates the thesis.
The format provides scaffolding for beginning writers but is often criticized as rigid and artificial.
My teacher insists on the five paragraph essay format.
