thesis statement
Paper's central argument
A thesis statement is the central argument or main point of an essay or paper, typically expressed in one or two sentences.
It appears early—usually at the end of the introduction—and tells the reader what position the writer will defend: My thesis statement is that social media has fundamentally altered how teenagers form identity.
A strong thesis statement is specific, arguable, and gives structure to everything that follows.
