five card draw

Five card draw is a form of poker in which each player receives five cards face down, then may discard and replace some or all of them in hopes of improving the hand.

It's the simplest and oldest widely played poker variant, often the first version people learn: We played five card draw for matchsticks.

The game lacks the exposed cards of stud poker or the community cards of Texas hold 'em, making it harder to read opponents.
