firedogs
Log-holding metal stands
Firedogs are metal supports placed in a fireplace to hold logs above the hearth, allowing air to circulate beneath for better burning.
They typically come in pairs, each with a horizontal bar supported by decorative vertical stands.
Also called andirons.
The brass firedogs gleamed in the firelight.
