fire pole
Firefighter's quick descent
A fire pole is a vertical metal pole extending through openings in a firehouse floor, allowing firefighters to slide quickly from upper levels to the ground floor when responding to alarms.
The pole enables faster descent than stairs.
He slid down the fire pole the moment the bell rang.
Fire poles appear on playgrounds as climbing and sliding equipment.
