fire line
Cleared containment strip
A fire line is a strip of land cleared of vegetation to stop or slow the spread of a wildfire.
Firefighters cut fire lines by removing brush, trees, and other fuel so flames have nothing to burn when they reach the barrier.
The term also applies to the boundary where firefighters actively engage a blaze: Crews worked the fire line through the night.
