prescribed burn
Planned forest fire
A prescribed burn is a fire set intentionally under controlled conditions to manage land—reducing accumulated brush, promoting new growth, or preventing larger wildfires.
Also called a controlled burn.
Forest services and land managers use prescribed burns as a tool: The prescribed burn cleared decades of undergrowth without damaging mature trees.
