fire buckets
Flame-fighting containers
Fire buckets are containers kept filled with water or sand for extinguishing small fires.
Before modern fire extinguishers, buildings commonly displayed red buckets near exits or along corridors: The old factory still had a row of fire buckets by the stairwell.
Some remain in use where electricity or complex equipment is impractical.
