final lap
Race's last circuit
The final lap is the last circuit of a race—the stretch before the finish line.
Races on tracks are measured in laps, and the final one often determines the outcome: She made her move on the final lap.
Figuratively, any project or effort nearing completion is on its final lap: We're on the final lap of this renovation.
