fezzes

Red felt caps

Fezzes is the plural of fez, a brimless felt cap shaped like a truncated cone, typically red with a black tassel.

The fez originated in Morocco and became associated with the Ottoman Empire before being banned in Turkey in 1925.

It survives in fraternal organizations and as costume: The Shriners wore their fezzes in the parade.
