feral horse
Untamed prairie roamer
A feral horse is a horse that lives in the wild but descends from domesticated ancestors.
Unlike truly wild horses, which were never domesticated, feral horses are the offspring of escaped or released domestic stock that have reverted to an untamed state over generations.
Famous populations include the mustangs of the American West and the brumbies of Australia.
The feral horses roamed freely across the open range.
