fairy fort

Irish enchanted hillock

A fairy fort is a circular earthwork or ring of trees in the Irish countryside, traditionally believed to be a dwelling place of fairies.

These ancient structures—often Iron Age ring forts—are widely left undisturbed out of respect for folk belief or superstition.

Farmers may plow around them rather than risk bad luck: No one touches the fairy fort in the back field.
