faggoting

Bundled embroidery technique

Faggoting is a decorative needlework technique that joins two pieces of fabric with open, crisscrossed stitches, leaving a ladder-like gap between them.

The effect appears on heirloom linens, blouses, and lingerie.

The word comes from the resemblance to bundles of sticks (faggots) tied together.

Also spelled fagoting.
