exterior shots
Outdoor scene footage
Exterior shots are scenes filmed outdoors, as opposed to interior shots captured on soundstages or inside buildings.
The term belongs to film and television production, appearing in scripts and shot lists: We need to wrap the exterior shots before we lose the light.
Location scouts find suitable exteriors—building facades, streets, landscapes—that establish setting and atmosphere.
