extended universe
Spinoffs and prequels
An extended universe is a fictional world that expands beyond its original work through additional stories, characters, and settings.
The term comes from media franchises where novels, comics, games, or films elaborate on an established narrative: The Star Wars extended universe includes hundreds of books.
These expansions may or may not be considered official canon by creators or fans.
