expungements

Legal record removals

Expungements are official erasures of records, typically criminal records ordered sealed or destroyed by a court.

After an expungement, the record legally ceases to exist, allowing someone to truthfully deny the underlying arrest or conviction on job applications: She helped clients file for expungements of old misdemeanor charges.

The process varies by jurisdiction.
