expirations

When validity ceases

Expirations are endings—moments when something runs out or ceases to be valid.

The term appears most often with dates: an expiration date on milk, a driver's license, a contract, or a coupon.

In formal or medical contexts, expiration can also mean the act of breathing out, or death itself: the expiration of the patient occurred at 3:15 a.m.
