exciseman
Customs enforcement officer
An exciseman is a government officer who collects excise taxes—duties levied on goods produced and sold within a country, such as alcohol or tobacco.
The term is chiefly British and historical, associated with the era when such officers would inspect premises and seize contraband: The exciseman came round to check the distillery's records.
