evening rush
After-work traffic peak
The evening rush is the period of heavy traffic and crowding when people leave work and head home, typically between 4 and 7 PM.
It's the counterpart to the morning rush, and together they form rush hour: I got stuck in the evening rush on the freeway.
The phrase extends to any surge of activity at day's end: the evening rush at the grocery store.
