evening paper

An evening paper is a newspaper published in the afternoon for sale and delivery later that day, as opposed to a morning paper.

The distinction mattered more when cities supported multiple daily papers and readers expected fresh editions: He picked up the evening paper on his way home from work.

The category has largely disappeared as print journalism declined.
