ethnic foods
Foreign culinary traditions
Ethnic foods are cuisines associated with particular cultural or national groups, typically ones outside the mainstream of wherever the term is used.
In American contexts, the phrase usually refers to non-European traditions—Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Thai—though Italian and Greek food once qualified.
The term can feel dated or mildly othering, implying these cuisines are exotic rather than simply food: There's a great ethnic food market downtown.
