engine company
Firefighters and apparatus
An engine company is a firefighting unit that operates a fire engine—specifically one equipped with hoses and a pump for delivering water to extinguish fires.
Fire departments distinguish engine companies from ladder companies or truck companies, which carry aerial equipment for rescue and ventilation rather than water-pumping apparatus.
