endosome
Intracellular transport bubble
An endosome is a membrane-bound compartment inside cells that sorts and processes material brought in from outside the cell.
Endosomes receive cargo from the cell surface and direct it either to lysosomes for degradation or back to the membrane for recycling.
They function as cellular sorting stations in the trafficking system.
