endosomes

Intracellular trafficking bubbles

Endosomes are membrane-bound compartments inside cells that sort and transport materials brought in from outside the cell.

They function as way stations in the cellular trafficking system, receiving cargo from the cell surface and directing it either to lysosomes for degradation or back to the membrane for recycling.

The virus hijacks endosomes to enter the cell's interior.
