brace position
Emergency tuck stance
The brace position is a protective posture assumed by airplane passengers during emergency landings—head down, body curled forward, hands protecting the skull.
Flight attendants demonstrate it during safety briefings: Assume the brace position.
The term extends to any defensive crouch anticipating impact: I saw the email subject line and went into brace position.
