earning
Making through labor
Earning is the act of gaining something through effort, work, or merit.
Most often it refers to money received for labor: She's earning good money at her new job.
But earning extends to non-monetary rewards—you earn respect, trust, or a reputation through your actions.
The plural earnings refers to income or profits: quarterly earnings, lifetime earnings.
